The Feminine urge...to have a face with expression

I went to my chiropractor and we both laughed when she said “you don’t have a very good poker face” meaning you can clearly see my expression. 

Is it that rare now? 

To see a woman with a face that's fully expressed? 

Is freezing our expressions just another form of suppressing women? 

Theres ad and ad of how to look younger and not its only being directed to 40+ women but young girls. 

I went to a body image event recently and the women there shared that they wanted to embrace the lines on their face, that they were worried they looked out of place in a fake world. It saddened me as these women were in their 20s and early 30s, a time that should be focused on exploring life not looking “pretty.”

What are we teaching the next generation of women about living when all they see is expressionless faces. 

There's research on the effects on botox/ emotionless faces and the effects on children's emotional development. There's also research on botox and the links with auto-immune disease which does not surprise me at all.

Years ago I felt the pressure, I got botox, I hated it, my face didn’t feel like my own, I got headaches and when I looked in the mirror I felt so far from myself. 

I’ll be 40 this year and I have lines on my face, this is normal but in this current world it doesn’t always feel normal. I worry that in 10 years I’ll look 50 while everyone else my age looks 20 and it’s honestly the dumbest shit to worry about. 

We have become so fearful of ageing when it’s a privilege to.

I want my kids to see the fullness of their mothers expression, I want them to experience the depth of my smile, the lines between my brows when I’m concentrating and my face squish when I laugh and to see when I’m annoyed. 

I do not want my daughter growing up believing her womanhood, her body and her expression is something to erase.
